Pros and Cons of Services

Chrysalis: The Developmental Service ethically strives to make sure that you are greatly informed when making such important decisions regarding your life. Therefore it is requested that you take a moment to review the list of pros and cons prior to choosing a non-traditional service such as Chrysalis TDS.

Advantages of Consultation via telephone, email or live chat are as follows:

  1. Such services are less expensive then traditional office therapy. This is greatly attributed to the fact that virtual offices are far less costly to maintain then traditional offices which greatly offsets the cost of services.
  2. Such services provide you the luxury of choosing your own comfortable setting. Whether it takes place on your couch, your patio or in your office - you decide where you want your developmental process to take place.
  3. You are able to receive services during nontraditional hours. Many of us have difficulty finding the time to incorporate appointments into our already busy day. Chrysalis TDS offers an array of appointment times that are convenient for you. Email correspondences are even more practical as they do not require an appointment.
  4. You are able to receive a higher level of anonymity which in many ways may reduce anxiety about engaging in a service that prompts you to be honest with yourself and with your personal disclosures. Anonymity may also be significant if you are a high profile person in your community or you reside in a small community - where everyone knows everyone.

Disadvantages of Consultation via telephone, email or live chat are as follows:

  1. Although any information that is exchanged between you and Chrysalis TDS is deemed as confidential and privileged information, Chrysalis TDS can not guarantee breeches of information. Solely because Chrysalis TDS does not have control over the dual environments that are created when conversing over the telephone or when conversing via chat/email. Chrysalis TDS can only secure its environment; they cannot secure your environment. Therefore it is imperative that when committing to a session, you identify your safe and secure place and eliminate potential invasions.
  2. Non face to face interactions exclude important therapeutic cues such as body language, facial expressions etc. The exclusion of such important cues can at times become frustrating when attempting to convey emotions or feelings.
  3. In conjunction with number two, the exclusion of non-verbal cues can limit a therapist clinical insight, observation and judgment. Thus it becomes very important that you critically evaluate your feelings to express them as clearly as possible in your writings.
  4. Many people have difficulty relating to someone whom they cannot visually and physically interact with. This may hinder treatment progress.
